Performances featured local drum troupes, a choir of visually impaired children performing traditional Hunan folk melodies, and artistic displays emphasizing dignity, self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance, and self-strengthening.
At 20:00, the official countdown commenced, drawing on historical local motifs including the Tuzhishan bamboo slips to showcase Yiyang's cultural heritage and the natural scenery of Dongting Lake. Following the prologue, a three-part thematic artistic performance titled "We Can Do It, We Walk Together, We Move Forward" unfolded across the gymnasium floor.
Competition Structure and Schedule
Organized to balance high-level athletic competition with mass participation, the 12th provincial games feature 11 major sports disciplines. Athletes will compete across track and field, swimming, shooting, judo, weightlifting, taekwondo, archery, darts, table tennis, badminton, and Chinese chess. Across these disciplines, organizers expect a total of approximately 500 gold medals to be awarded during the competition.
The flame lighting ceremony marked a central highlight of the evening’s program, featuring a relay carried out by three Yiyang-native champions holding Paralympic and national titles.
