The decision by the 1991 East German champions follows a 4-0 defeat against Viktoria Köln over the weekend. Despite the lopsided scoreline on Friday, club officials indicated that the change stems from a broader evaluation rather than a single match. Amir Shapourzadeh, director of professional football at Hansa Rostock, noted that the club’s leadership closely monitored the team’s trajectory over recent weeks and months.

“This decision is not one we took lightly, but we have observed the team’s situation very closely over the past weeks and months, analyzing not just results but also the fundamental sporting direction and performances on the pitch,” Shapourzadeh stated according to club announcements. “We came to the shared assessment that the recent development no longer met our expectations and sporting goals.”

Standings and Promotion Ambitions

Entering the campaign as one of the pre-season favorites for promotion to the 2. Liga table after securing two victories through the opening five league fixtures. Despite the mixed start, the club remains within striking distance of the promotion race, trailing the automatic promotion spots by only two points.

Brinkmann departs after managing the team for nearly two years, having taken charge in late 2024.

Interim Leadership Takes Charge

In the wake of the dismissal, Hansa Rostock has turned to internal staff to stabilize the squad. The previous coaching staff, featuring assistant coaches Yannic Thiel and Adam Susac alongside goalkeeper coach Arvid Rinast, will oversee training and prepare the team from the sidelines.
