Interim duties have been assigned to U23 coaches Lars Barlemann and Christian Schulz, alongside assistant Levent Sürme from the previous coaching staff. Internal Friction and Roster Dynamics
The separation follows a period of reported friction between Titz and the club’s leadership structure, particularly following the summer appointment of sport boss Jonas Boldt. Sources noted disagreements regarding transfer strategy, squad sizing, and roster decisions—most notably concerning goalkeeper Pascal Loretz. Boldt had signed the 23-year-old from FC Luzern for a reported fee of 1.1 million euros, but Titz utilized him for only a single league match before returning him to the substitutes’ bench.
Despite maintaining a points average of 1.63 across 41 matches under Titz, the club’s ambitious targets for promotion created mounting pressure. Bundesliga standings with four points after five matches, hovering just above the relegation zone on goal difference.
Sandro Wagner Emerges as Frontrunner
As the search for a permanent successor accelerated, Hannover 96 zeroed in on Sandro Wagner. Reports from Bild and other sports media indicate that club management has entered direct negotiations with the 38-year-old former striker, who has been without a club since his departure from FC Augsburg in December.
Wagner previously gained managerial experience guiding SpVgg Unterhaching to promotion in 2023 and serving as an assistant coach for the German national team under Julian Nagelsmann. His tenure at Augsburg concluded after 14 matches following a difficult run of results. If negotiations conclude successfully, Wagner is expected to take charge of training sessions ahead of the weekend fixture against Bochum, securing a lengthy international break to implement tactical adjustments.
