Gonzalo Petit is struggling for minutes at Cádiz, creating an unexpected problem for Real Betis after the young Uruguayan forward managed only eight total minutes of playing time across the early stages of the season. Following a summer spent training with the Betis first team, the club’s technical staff determined that another loan move was necessary for the 2025 signing’s development, particularly given squad constraints involving non-EU player slots.
A 4.5 Million Euro Investment Left on the Bench
That planned developmental step has stalled under Cádiz manager Albert Celades. Petit missed out on selection once again during a recent draw in Tenerife, extending a difficult stretch that has seen the striker left out of the active tactical equation. Real Betis invested 4.5 million euros to secure the forward in the summer of 2025, heightening the club’s scrutiny over his lack of competitive action.
Early Injuries and a Difficult Run of Form
Physical setbacks initially slowed the player’s integration. A muscle injury suffered during pre-season training with Betis disrupted his physical conditioning and delayed his introduction at Cádiz. However, as training blocks and matchweeks have passed, his situation has not improved.
Even amid a difficult run of form for Cádiz—a side still searching for its first victory of the campaign—the coaching staff has not turned to the loanee to bolster the attacking line.
Contrasting Minutes With Previous Loan Spells
Petit’s sole appearance to date came during the fifth matchday of the season, when he featured for the final eight minutes of a defeat against Unión Deportiva Las Palmas. He subsequently spent two full fixtures on the bench or out of the squad entirely against Girona and Tenerife.
Last season, by contrast, the forward managed regular minutes and scored goals during separate loan spells with Mirandés and Granada.

Despite growing concern at Benito Villamarín regarding the forward’s stagnation, coaching staff members at Real Betis maintain confidence that the Uruguayan can reverse his trajectory.
