Monza-native judoka Francesco Cesana secured a bronze medal at the Italian Judo Trophy – Beginners, delivering a dominant performance characterized by five victories via ippon over the weekend of September 19th and 20th in Trentino.
An Impressive Run in Trentino
Competing on the national judo circuit as a representative of Ronin Monza, Francesco Cesana fought through a massive field of approximately 800 young athletes from across Italy. Cesana marched through six matches, claiming five wins before regulation time by executing maximum-score ippon throws without conceding a single point. His only blemish came against Matteo Guglieri, who halted Cesana’s march to the gold-medal match and ultimately finished in second place.
“Francesco competed at a high level,” Master Alfredo Mezzadra stated regarding the performance. “Five victories by ippon without conceding points speaks volumes about the quality of his performance.” Ronin Monza President Fabio Contento also expressed satisfaction with the club’s showing at the national event.
National Rankings and Club Performance
This latest podium finish continues a strong seasonal trajectory for the young competitor. Earlier in the year, Cesana claimed a silver medal at the Italian Trophy held in Piedmont. Securing bronze in Trentino elevates Cesana to third place in the national ranking list for his division.
Ronin Monza traveled to Northern Italy with a six-athlete competitive team under the direction of Master Mezzadra. The club’s wider contingent produced several notable results during the tournament. Elia Moresco advanced to the quarterfinals, while Marco Francucci reached the round of 16. Teammates Marco Scala, Alessandro Lysak, and Daria Vasilaky finished their respective campaigns positioned between 32nd and 16th place.
