The Transfer Deal and Career Path Back to the Eredivisie
The 27-year-old Medić is set for a temporary return to Dutch football as FC Utrecht moves to bolster its defensive options before the transfer deadline. Norwich City, where Medić made 18 official appearances after joining from Ajax last summer for a reported fee of approximately two million euros, has agreed to a loan structure containing a purchase option. While German outlet Sky Sports Deutschland noted late interest from the Bundesliga, Utrecht secured the strongest position to complete the transaction.

Medić expressed enthusiasm regarding the move through club channels, stating, “I am very happy and excited about this opportunity. I love to play football with my heart and passion. I would love to show that here in Utrecht. I once played here against FC Utrecht, but was on the bench back then. Still, I can remember that the supporters were loud and that the atmosphere was very good. I hope to experience many great moments together with the supporters.” In addition to Medić’s arrival, Utrecht has also explored a move for Nikolas Panagiotou from Omonia Nicosia.
Ajax Background and Previous Dutch Stint
Medić’s return to the Netherlands comes after a difficult stint in Amsterdam during the 2023/24 season. Ajax originally acquired the defender in the summer of 2023 for roughly three million euros from FC St. Pauli under then-technical director Sven Mislintat. His career in the Eredivisie started with significant promise when he scored a long-range strike on his debut against Heracles Almelo.
However, that strike proved to be a rare high point. Medić featured in only five additional league matches for Ajax before the club loaned him to VfL Bochum and subsequently sold him to Norwich City. Under contract with the English Championship side until mid-2028, Medić now aims to revive his career in the Dutch top flight under the management of FC Utrecht.
