Facundo Díaz Acosta and Francisco Comesaña will headline the main draw of the 11th edition of the Buenos Aires Challenger, according to tournament organizers. The clay-court event, officially known as the YPF Buenos Aires Challenger presented by La Roche-Posay and organized by Torneos, is scheduled to take place from September 20 to 27 at the Racket Club in Palermo.
Top Seeds and Local Contenders Lead the Field
The tournament’s opening rounds will feature a strong contingent of home favorites at the top of the acceptance list. Díaz Acosta enters the main draw as the highest-ranked competitor at No. 82 in the ATP rankings, according to entry lists confirmed by tournament officials. The 25-year-old left-hander secured the Argentina Open title in 2024 without dropping a set and leads the current Challenger circuit with five clay-court titles this season, having triumphed in Tigre, São Leopoldo, Francavilla al Mare, Milan, and San Marino. His victory in San Marino helped him return to the top 100.
Comesaña occupies the No. 119 spot in the rankings and holds the second seed position. The Mar del Plata native won the Buenos Aires Challenger in 2024 after defeating Federico Coria in the final and reached the third round of Roland Garros before falling in a five-hour, 13-minute encounter against Italy’s Matteo Berrettini. Comesaña has seven clay titles at the Challenger level and aims to become the first player to capture the Racket Club trophy twice.
International Competitors and Main Draw Depth
Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien, ranked No. 140 and holding 16 career Challenger titles on clay, joins the international entries alongside Spain’s Pedro Martínez, ranked No. 145. Martínez won the ATP title in Santiago in 2022 and reached clay-court finals in Kitzbühel in 2021 and Estoril in 2024. South American rising prospects Juan Carlos Prado Angelo of Bolivia (No. 155) and Peru’s Gonzalo Bueno (No. 172) also secured direct entry into the singles main draw.
The acceptance list includes a total of twelve Argentine singles players. Alongside Díaz Acosta and Comesaña, the home nation’s representation features Alex Barrena, who finished as runner-up in the previous edition, alongside Genaro Olivieri, Guido Justo, Juan Bautista Torres, Facundo Mena, Gonzalo Villanueva, Nicolás Kicker, Juan Estévez, Hernán Casanova, and Renzo Olivo, who enters via a protected ranking.
