The Bedford Baseball League secured three divisional championships at Macombs Dam Park in the Bronx during the culmination of the 2026 Community Games, organized by the Dominican Foundation of Sports in New York Inc.
Bedford Baseball League Claims Three Titles in Community Games Finals
The tournament marked the 40th anniversary of the Dominican Foundation of Sports in New York Inc., drawing 48 teams to fields located near the site of the former Yankee Stadium at 161st Street and River Avenue. Concluding in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the multi-week event featured competition across multiple age groups and concluded with championship rounds supported by Gorayeb & Associates and dedicated in part to Mariano Rivera and firm president Christopher Gorayeb.
Former MLB pitcher Bartolo Colón attended the final day of competition to participate in the presentation of trophies and awards to the participating youth teams and individual players.
Dramatic Finishes Mark Youth Divisional Finals
The 11-12 division featured a one-run margin as Van Cortlandt League defeated Morris League 13-12 in the final. Alan Jiménez earned the win on the mound and collected the division’s best pitcher award, while Miguel Ortiz received tournament Most Valuable Player honors for the champion side, managed by Levington de Jesús. In the third-place game for the division, Angel’s White Sox defeated the Guerrero Academy 3-2.
In the 13-14 age bracket, the Bedford Baseball League erased a late deficit against the Guerrero Academy. Trailing 13-10 heading into the final frame, Bedford mounted a two-out rally to score four runs and claim a 14-13 victory. Robert Mora earned the top pitcher recognition for the division, and teammate Dereck Sosa was named Most Valuable Player.
The 15-16 division final saw the Bedford Baseball League secure a 10-2 win over Morris League. Giromy Volquez struck out six batters for Bedford to earn the division’s best pitcher award, while Roldany Vásquez collected the Most Valuable Player award for his offensive performance.
Community Organization and Extended Results
Prior to the final evening, additional divisional champions were determined across younger brackets. The Bedford Baseball League won the 4-6 age group title, Washington Heights Jaybies Sports captured the 7-8 division, and the Victorino League from the Dominican Republic won the 9-10 championship.
With titles in the 4-6, 13-14, and 15-16 divisions, the Bronx-based Bedford Baseball League captured three of the six championships contested during the tournament. The program operates under the direction of Wilson Gutiérrez alongside a staff of coaches and volunteers.
The event drew large crowds of family members, friends, and supporters to the Bronx facility throughout the schedule, marking the milestone anniversary of the organizing foundation.
