Club Brugge chairman Bart Verhaeghe has outlined the Belgian club’s long-term ambitions, addressing structural changes within the organization, the ongoing pursuit of a new stadium, and the club’s rising stature in European football ahead of their latest UEFA Champions League campaign.
In a rare, wide-ranging series of interviews covered by regional media including Sporza, Het Laatste Nieuws, and De Standaard, Verhaeghe discussed the current standing of the Belgian Pro League champions. Addressing the club’s financial and operational health, the chairman defended their position at the summit of Belgian football. “I am not ashamed of our luxury position,” Verhaeghe told Sporza, adding in comments reported by De Standaard: “Must I sometimes be ashamed because we have worked ourselves into this position?”

Drawing a comparison to endurance sports, the Club Brugge chairman emphasized that physical and tactical preparation in football must continue to evolve rapidly. “I am convinced that we can do much better in the guidance of players. In terms of what you can ask of their bodies and do… In triathlon, the world record has dropped from 9 to 7 hours,” Verhaeghe told Sporza. “Football will also evolve at a rapid pace. Also on a tactical level. We must be sharp for that with our entire organization.”
Verhaeghe also highlighted the club’s youth academy, which has been named the best in Belgium for three years in a row and achieved notable success in the Youth League. He stressed that Club Brugge must continue to embrace its reputation as a benchmark for quality in scouting and recruitment.
