According to tournament rules cited in regional coverage, the LNR explicitly prohibits flags or displays carrying messages of a racist, xenophobic, political, or philosophical nature. Furthermore, standard stadium entry guidelines do not require prior authorization for flags unless they exceed specific dimensions or incorporate rigid poles. Because the confiscated gonfanon did not violate these governing criteria, the refusal at the gate surprised traveling fans.
Travelers Question Regional Restrictions
“We’ve never had any trouble whether in Ireland, England, or Scotland,” Julian told regional journalists, noting the irony of encountering restrictions within the shared Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. “Today at Gerland, we’re told the flag of Auvergne isn’t present on the list of authorized flags.”
While the supporters acknowledged that the confiscation did not derail the matchday experience entirely, they expressed disappointment over the apparent unfamiliarity with local heraldry at a venue situated in the neighboring metropolis.
