The 22nd edition of the Festa dello Sport on Viale Togliatti in Spicchio and Sovigliana is officially sold out, bringing together 34 local sports associations for a day-long showcase of athletics, team sports, and community engagement in Vinci.
Scheduled for Sunday, September 20, the event runs alongside the traditional Viale in festa market.
A Sold-Out Showcase for Local Athletics
Municipal organizers reported a surge in participation requests for this year’s Festa dello Sport, filling every available exhibition slot. Starting at 3 p.m., 34 distinct sports organizations will erect booths along Viale Togliatti to demonstrate both mainstream and niche athletic disciplines.
Visitors can watch and participate in demonstrations spanning traditional favorites like football, tennis, and athletics, alongside specialized disciplines including martial arts, gymnastics, cycling, and dance.
“The Festa dello Sport and Viale in festa represent two important occasions of participation and sociality for our community,” Vinci Mayor Daniele Vanni said in a statement released by the municipality. “The presence of 34 sport associations at the 22nd edition confirms the vitality of our territory and the great value of sport, especially for the younger generation.”
Civic Leadership and Community Engagement
Local officials emphasize that the annual event serves a critical role in launching the regional sports season.
Giulio Vezzosi, the municipal assessor for sport, noted that the consistent growth in participating clubs over recent years highlights the strength of the Empolese Valdelsa sporting community. Vezzosi stated that municipal efforts will continue focusing on expanding youth participation and supporting local clubs.
Complementing the athletic exhibitions, the Viale in festa market organized by Anva-Confesercenti will open its stalls starting at 8 a.m., operating through the evening hours. The street market functions as an open-air commercial center, supported by local merchants and the CCN Le Vie di Spicchio e Sovigliana, which coordinated open shops and an artisan market in the small square on Via Leonardo da Vinci.
Traffic Restrictions and Event Logistics
To accommodate the heavy pedestrian traffic anticipated for both the market and the sports festival, local authorities have instituted temporary traffic changes. Viale Togliatti will be entirely closed to vehicular traffic throughout Sunday, September 20. Residents and visitors can review specific road closures and alternative routes through the official municipal portal managed by the Comune di Vinci.
