The Venezuelan wrestling delegation secured six new qualification slots for the upcoming Lima 2027 Pan American Games following a standout performance at the Pan American Wrestling Championships, according to official reports from the Ministry of Sport.
With this latest wave of qualifiers, Venezuela has brought its total number of athletes booked for the continental multi-sport event to 10. That total includes four competitors who previously punched their tickets at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, according to coverage from La Prensa de Monagas.
Across the senior championship tournament, the Venezuelan team collected seven medals, breaking down to one gold and six bronze finishes. The results bolstered the nation’s standing in the Olympic rankings while serving as a key competitive test ahead of the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games.
Women’s Freestyle Leadership
Nathaly Grimán led the delegation by capturing the Pan American title in the 68 kg women’s freestyle division. Grimán secured the gold medal after defeating United States competitor Jasmine Robinson 7-1 in the final match, according to tournament results.
Teammate Astrid Montero also reached the podium in the women’s competition, claiming a bronze medal in her weight class.
Men’s Freestyle Bronze Haul
The final day of competition brought a flurry of bronze medals for Venezuela’s men’s freestyle squad. Pedro Mejías earned his spot on the podium in the 53 kg division by pinning Dominican Republic competitor Juan Ramírez.
Ibsen Aguilar battled through the bracket by defeating a competitor from Colombia before overcoming Argentina’s Luis Barrios 8-6 in the decisive third-place match. José Alarcón added another bronze in the 97 kg division following a 6-5 victory over Jamaica’s Steven Burrel.
Heavyweight competitor José Díaz Roberti closed out the men’s freestyle campaign by securing a 2-1 victory over Puerto Rico’s Jonovan Smith in the 125 kg bracket.

The Greco-Roman style team also contributed to the country’s overall medal count. Luis Avendaño earned a bronze medal in the 87 kg division after his scheduled opponent from the Dominican Republic withdrew due to injury, resulting in a default.
Carlos Herrera narrowly missed adding to the podium count, finishing in fourth place in the 60 kg Greco-Roman tournament following a hard-fought series of matches. The delegation’s overall performance highlighted depth across multiple styles as the team shifts focus toward its next international preparatory windows.
