The 23-year-old driver of the No. 54 Toyota managed worn tires over the final 19 laps to stave off a fierce challenge from Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell.
Late Pit Strategy and the Winning Run at Iowa Speedway
The race hinged on a pivotal pit stop cycle with 60 laps to go in the 350-lap event. While Bell opted for four fresh tires, crew chief Tyler Allen elected to put only two right-side tires on Gibbs’ car. That aggressive call put Gibbs ahead during the cycle, and when race leader Ross Chastain pitted on Lap 330, Gibbs inherited the top spot.
Bell closed the gap over the final laps, finishing just 0.253 seconds behind Gibbs. It was Bell’s seventh runner-up finish of the 2026 season without a win. Pole-sitter Ryan Blaney finished third after leading a race-high 129 laps, while Josh Berry took fourth for his best finish of the season. Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.

The performance marks a stark shift from Gibbs’ earlier years in the Cup Series, where he finished 18th, 15th, and 19th in his first three full-time campaigns. Over his last six races, Gibbs has accumulated 285 points.
Early Chaos and Troubles for Tyler Reddick
While the leaders battled late, the race saw early attrition. Just four laps into the event, Tyler Reddick lost control entering Turn 1 and collided with Erik Jones, ending both drivers’ days and capping off a difficult summer stretch for Reddick.
Reddick, who won three of the first six races of the season, has now recorded four finishes of 30th or worse in his last six outings.
