Beşiktaş board member Serdal Adalı launched a blistering critique of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and the Central Referee Board (MHK) following an official visit to the governing body, declaring that Turkish football cannot progress under the current administration. Speaking to reporters after the meetings, Adalı stated that his patience had completely run out due to recent referee assignments and poor officiating, warning that he plans to take the matter directly to state leadership.

The latest crisis in Turkish football erupted following contentious officiating decisions during weekend fixtures, drawing sharp rebukes from several top clubs. Adalı met with TFF officials to address what he described as gross incompetence and systemic failures within the refereeing structure. The Beşiktaş executive pulled no punches when assessing the job security of MHK head officials, arguing that the federation’s leadership’s hands appear tied.

“This MHK president cannot move Turkish football forward even a single step as long as he remains in office, and he completely overshadows the good work the TFF manages to do,” Adalı said. “Today, I am fully convinced of one thing: neither the TFF president nor the board of directors can do anything about this man. The TFF simply cannot dismiss this president.”
Controversial Referee Assignments and Allegations of Bias
Focusing on specific flashpoints, Adalı pointed to recent referee appointments that he claims lacked good intentions, referencing an incident during a previous cup match and subsequent disciplinary fallout. Adalı expressed frustration over VAR performance, particularly an unpunished physical altercation on the pitch that he argued exposed a total lack of control from the match officials.
“We have spent three days trying to fix the psychological state of our player after these incidents,” Adalı remarked, noting that such controversies endanger the sporting integrity of competitions across the board. He added that the issue extends far beyond Beşiktaş, revealing that club presidents from across the Süper Lig, 1. Lig, and 2. Lig had reached out to share similar grievances. “At least 35 club presidents have called me. There are massive scandals happening in the lower leagues as well, and someone needs to examine them.”
Taking the Referee Crisis to the Presidential Level
With domestic sporting channels failing to yield structural reform, Adalı announced plans to escalate the dispute outside of football governance entirely. The Beşiktaş official intends to request an audience with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to lay out the depth of the crisis.
“We have spent 250-300 million Euro, others, and smaller clubs spend what they can. Yet the fates of massive football communities rest between the two lips of a man sitting comfortably in Beylerbeyi who is entirely out of touch,” Adalı stated. “From this point forward, there is only one person left to whom we can explain our troubles. I will request an appointment and present these referee issues directly to our esteemed President.”
What Comes Next for Turkish Football Governance
While federation officials have maintained that educational programs and foreign coaching consultants will gradually elevate officiating standards, club executives continue to demand immediate personnel changes at the top of the MHK.
