Saltillo to Host 2026 Archery World Cup Final: World's Best Archers Head to Coahuila

The four-day international competition will unfold in the heart of the city’s historic center, turning landmarks into a high-level sports venue.

Historic Center Set as Championship Stage

Competitors will battle for world titles in the Plaza de Armas and Santos Rojos Alley, flanked by historic architecture including the Palacio de Gobierno and the Cathedral, as confirmed by Saltillo Mayor Javier Díaz González. Organizers plan to install grandstands holding more than 1,500 spectators to accommodate fans watching the elimination rounds and finals up close.

The tournament features the top eight athletes across four specific categories: women’s compound, men’s compound, women’s recurvo, and men’s recurvo. Qualification comes from accumulated points earned across the global World Cup circuit stages leading up to the September showdown. “Quien gane aquí en Saltillo va a ser el campeón mundial de cada una de las categorías,” Díaz González stated, emphasizing that the event crowns the ultimate season champions rather than serving as an Olympic qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Mexican Stars and Local Representation

Local fans will see prominent Mexican and homegrown Coahuila archers take the shooting line against international fields. The roster of expected competitors highlights local standouts Matías Grande and Ana Paula Vázquez, alongside Paris 2024 Olympic medalist Alejandra Valencia.

Mexican archery maintains a powerful international reputation following strong showings on the global stage. The presence of elite international teams—including athletes accompanied by coaches, physiotherapists, nutritionists, and sports psychologists—is expected to drive tourism and boost the local economy throughout the competition week.

Broadcast Reach and Official Presentation

The tournament carries significant media exposure, with live broadcasts slated to reach more than 70 countries worldwide. Officials formally introduced the event during a press conference at the Centro Nacional de Alto Rendimiento (CNAR) in Mexico City. The announcement featured National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE) Director Rommel Pacheco, Coahuila and Saltillo municipal representatives, INEDEC officials, and Gabriel Ramos, president of World Archery México.
