Pallacanestro Reggiana Moves Training to Guastalla Due to Extreme Heat at PalaBigi

Extreme summer heatwaves across the Italian plains have forced Pallacanestro Reggiana to temporarily relocate its pre-season training sessions away from the PalaBigi facility due to inadequate air conditioning, according to local media reports published at the end of August 2026.

Training Shift to Guastalla Amid Indoor Heat

The Una Hotels first team has shifted its daily workouts to the ‘Chiarelli-Donati’ sports hall in Guastalla. The move leaves behind the PalaBigi venue in Reggio Emilia, which had hosted the squad through the opening two weeks of their pre-season preparation schedule.

Rising temperatures inside the arena prompted the temporary relocation.

Coach Dimitris Priftis Highlights Facility Struggles

The operational disruption came to light following the team’s opening summer friendly match in Castelnovo Monti against Fortitudo Bologna, a game Una Hotels won 90-77. Speaking after the fixture, head coach Dimitris Priftis addressed the situation candidly.

“We are coming off two difficult weeks,” the Greek coach remarked regarding the indoor climate. He pointed to the severe heat inside the arena, noting that the conditions made training sessions exceptionally challenging for the roster.

Priftis also expressed frustration that despite renovation work carried out on the facility two years prior, the current indoor climate control remains insufficient during peak summer heatwaves.

Next Steps for Una Hotels Reggio Emilia

The squad will continue its training regimen at the Guastalla facility until local temperatures drop below critical warning levels. Once the weather moderates and the PalaBigi climate control can maintain appropriate working temperatures, the club plans to return its daily operations to Reggio Emilia.
