German long jump star Malaika Mihambo has been forced to prematurely end her current track and field season due to a left thigh injury sustained during the Diamond League meeting in Chorzów, Poland, according to announcements from the German Athletics Association (DLV).

Competing in the fifth and final attempt of her series, the 32-year-old Olympic champion felt a sudden, sharp pain while executing the jump, leading to an immediate medical evaluation and subsequent hospital treatment.
Mihambo detailed the moment on her Instagram channel, writing: „Bei meinem letzten Sprung wollte ich noch einmal alles geben. Doch in der Luft, beim Auskicken des Schwungbeins, schoss plötzlich ein starker Schmerz ein. Ich habe den Sprung noch in der Luft abgebrochen und bin anschließend in der Grube liegen geblieben“ („During my last jump, I wanted to give everything one more time. Following initial medical care at the venue, she was transported to a hospital for further assessment. A targeted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination scheduled for Monday is set to provide definitive diagnostic clarity regarding the exact severity of the left thigh trauma.

While definitive answers depend on the upcoming MRI scan, early clinical evaluations offer a measure of relief. Originally, the Tokyo 2021 Olympic gold medalist had slated appearances at the traditional Istaf meeting in Berlin, the Diamond League final in Brussels scheduled for early September, and the inaugural Ultimate Championship event in Budapest a week later.
