Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has secured his place on the New York Giants’ 53-man roster, according to league sources. Sunday’s roster confirmation completes a reunion with the franchise that selected him in the 2014 NFL Draft, setting up a return to the Giants more than a decade after his rookie campaign.
Roster Calculations Shift After Training Camp Uncertainty
Beckham’s path to the active roster remained far from guaranteed during a competitive summer training camp. The 33-year-old veteran worked to re-establish his footing amid a crowded wide receiver room. Roster math changed, however, when slot receiver Calvin Austin III suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Austin had operated as a featured player throughout the summer and stood as a roster lock prior to the injury.
The timing worked in Beckham’s favor. After signing a one-year contract with the Giants in June to bolster depth while Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton recovered from injuries, the veteran put together two strong practices. He followed those up with a productive preseason finale against the New York Jets, hauling in three passes for 53 yards on Friday night.

John Harbaugh acknowledged the receiver’s late surge following Friday’s preseason action. “I think he has done enough to make an NFL roster, for sure,” Harbaugh said on Friday night. “He’s played well, and he’s gotten better as his camp’s gone along. He deserves credit for that. He’s done a really good job with it.”

Earlier in the week, Harbaugh noted that Beckham had authored his best week of camp. The veteran flashed vintage form during those sessions, highlighted by a one-handed reception that brought back memories of his early years in New York. Selected 12th overall in 2014, Beckham captured NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after catching 91 passes for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns. He earned three Pro Bowl nods and two All-Pro selections during his initial five-year tenure with the Giants before he was traded to the Cleveland Browns following the 2018 season.
Journey Through the League and Earning His Spot
Since departing New York, Beckham’s career has featured both championship success and significant medical hurdles. He won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, though he tore his ACL for the second time during the second half of the game. After missing the 2022 season, Beckham played the 2023 campaign with the Baltimore Ravens under Harbaugh before spending part of the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins, where he appeared in nine games. He remained unsigned last season following a six-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
When Beckham initially met with the Giants in June following a pre-draft workout and physical, no immediate agreement was reached. Harbaugh noted at the time that the two parties would continue to remain in touch. Beckham stressed that the arrangement carried no guarantees.
“It has always been about proving it to myself,” Beckham said in June. “Coach and I talked about that. I think that was one of his fears. He was like, ‘I love you so much; I’ve got so much respect for you. I don’t want to bring you here and have to cut you.’ I’m like, ‘Listen, I’m going out on my sword either way it goes.'”
Looking Ahead to the Regular Season
With cutdown day yielding a spot on the 53-man roster, Beckham transitions to a depth option for the Giants’ regular-season schedule. New York will lean on his veteran presence as the offense prepares for its opening matchups.
