May 10 Eredivisie Fixture Abandoned After Flares
NAC Breda has been hit with a 10,000 euro fine by the KNVB disciplinary committee following crowd disturbances during their Eredivisie match against sc Heerenveen on May 10.
The penalty stems from flares thrown onto the pitch from Vak G. This breach forced both a temporary suspension and the eventual permanent abandonment of the fixture at the Rat Verlegh Stadion.
Trouble erupted in Breda when supporters in Vak G hurled a flare onto the playing surface. The referee temporarily halted the match in response.
Later in the contest, multiple flares were once again thrown onto the pitch.
At the time of the stoppage, NAC held a 2-0 lead.
The team could not escape 17th place.
The remaining minutes of the abandoned match were played out behind closed doors the following day in Heerenveen. The 2-0 scoreline in favor of NAC was officially maintained.
Twenty-Four National Stadium Bans Issued
In response to the misconduct, NAC Breda identified and slapped 24 individuals with national stadium bans.
The severe measures covered various forms of unacceptable behavior. These included violence, throwing objects and liquids, and launching illegal fireworks onto the field of play.
The KNVB factored this proactive, offender-focused approach into its final disciplinary ruling.
Ultimately, the football association decided against imposing heavier sanctions. Those avoided penalties could have included a behind-closed-doors home fixture or a partial closure of Vak G.
Leadership Stance and Security Overhaul
NAC General Director Remco Oversier emphasized that the incidents of May 10 cannot be allowed to happen again.
Oversier noted that the overwhelming majority of the club’s 20,000-plus supporters immediately distanced themselves from the small faction responsible for the disruption.
The club confirmed it accepted the 10,000-euro settlement proposal from the Dutch football association.
Civil Action and Legal Recourse Planned
NAC intends to use lessons learned from the investigation to strengthen its security framework ahead of future fixtures.
The organization stated it will pursue civil and legal action where possible to recover damages and costs directly from those identified as responsible.
The club is working alongside local authorities, staff, and supporters to maintain a welcoming atmosphere at the Rat Verlegh Stadion.
