Italian rider Christian Scaroni of Astana claimed the yellow leader’s jersey following the mountainous trek through the Tatras. Scaroni holds a narrow three-second advantage at the top of the standings heading into the race’s closing stage.

Barré Breaks Away in the Mountains

Saturday’s grueling route through the Polish mountains forced a major selection among the overall contenders. Barré launched his decisive move after shadowing Colombian climber Santiago Buitrago of Bahrain Victorious for much of the day. The French cyclist broke away from Buitrago with 13.8 kilometers remaining, riding clear to cross the finish line alone in Bukowina Tatrzańska.

Buitrago’s aggressive riding animated the stage in the high mountains, but the Bahrain Victorious leader could not match Barré’s sustained acceleration on the closing slopes.

Shift in the Overall Standings

The race leadership shifted significantly in the Tatra Mountains, unseating the previous yellow jersey holder, Dutch rider Bart Lemmen. Lemmen, who also races for Team Visma, dropped to third place in the overall standings following the queen stage. He sits five seconds behind Scaroni.

Time Trial Decider in Wieliczka

With just seconds separating the top contenders, the 83rd Tour de Pologne comes down to its final stage on Sunday, August 9. The race concludes with a 12.5-kilometer individual time trial in Wieliczka, near Kraków.

The short, explosive route against the clock will determine whether Scaroni can defend his three-second lead over Barré or if the young French winner can overturn the deficit to secure the overall title in his breakthrough professional campaign.
