At the Tour de France Femmes, former German cycling champion Liane Lippert finished sixth in a seven-rider breakaway on Stage 6, missing out on her second stage victory at the race as Kim Le Court Pienaar of Mauritius claimed the win following a 153.4-kilometer route from Montbrison to Tournon-sur-Rhône.
Stage 6 Breakaway and Sprint Finish
Lippert spent a significant portion of Stage 6 positioned in the front breakaway group, working to distance the peloton as the race approached the pivotal climbs of the French stage race. The 28-year-old rider from Friedrichshafen aimed for her second stage victory at the event following her stage win in 2023. However, as the breakaway contested the finish line in Tournon-sur-Rhône, Lippert finished several bike lengths behind the leaders, crossing the line in sixth place.
Kim Le Court Pienaar secured the stage victory, crossing ahead of France’s Cédrine Kerbaol, who finished second, and the Netherlands’ Puck Pieterse, who took third. The stage win marked a milestone for Pienaar, while Lippert had to settle for a top-ten placement after driving the pace at the front of the race for much of the day.
General Classification Standings Ahead of Mont Ventoux
Switzerland’s Marlen Reusser maintained her overall lead in the general classification following the conclusion of Stage 6. Reusser holds a 12-second advantage over Dutch contender Demi Vollering, while Poland’s Kasia Niewiadoma sits in third place, 1:17 minutes back.
In the youth classification, Germany’s Antonia Niedermaier successfully defended her white jersey as the best young rider. Following the sixth stage, Niedermaier moved into fifth place overall in the general standings, trailing race leader Reusser by 2:40 minutes.
The Ascent of Mont Ventoux
The race shifts focus immediately to Stage 7, which features a demanding climb up the Mont Ventoux. Riders face approximately 2,600 vertical meters of climbing before reaching the summit of the iconic mountain. The Tour de France Femmes concludes on Sunday in Nice.
