Families across central Italy navigating youth athletic expenses received a major operational update as regional authorities released the official beneficiary rankings for the 2026 Voucher Sport initiative, a 500-euro financial subsidy designed to cover training costs for children and teenagers aged 6 to 18 at accredited clubs and associations across the Lazio region.
Record Demand Triggers Budget Expansion
Regional records show that the 2026 edition generated over 117,000 eligible applications, marking a sharp surge from the approximately 47,000 submissions recorded during the previous year. To manage the massive influx of requests, the Lazio region expanded its financial allocation from an initial 9 million euro up to 19 million euro through the European Social Fund Plus (FSE+) program, according to regional announcements.

Regional Sport Councillor Elena Palazzo noted that the response from the public demonstrated an urgent, widespread need for financial relief within local households. Officials confirmed that the current beneficiary ranking funds more than 38,000 applications. In coordination with regional president Francesco Rocca, authorities are actively identifying supplementary funds to roll over the ranking list by September, aiming to accommodate a larger share of the applicant pool.
Program Scope and Participating Disciplines
The funding initiative allows qualifying households—defined as those with an Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator (ISEE) not exceeding 50,000 euro—to select from more than 5,000 athletic courses across the region. Among the diverse options available in Rome is judo, a discipline that unites movement, rules, coordination and respect for others.

Data released for the 2026 cycle outlines a broader network of participating facilities compared to the prior year. The program encompasses 2,620 sports venues across 217 municipalities, offering over 366,054 total voucher-eligible slots through 1,961 sports organizations and third-sector entities.
Attendance Tracking and Operational Rules
To maintain compliance with program guidelines, participating youth must complete a minimum of three monthly hours of athletic training, choosing up to three accredited sports clubs or associations. For participants with disabilities, the mandatory training requirement is set at one hour per month. Verification of attendance is handled digitally by scanning a daily QR code either upon entry or exit at the designated facility.
Beneficiaries can review the published rankings and check the status of their individual vouchers directly through the official Sport e Salute web portal. Regional sport departments confirmed that the online platform will receive updates in September as additional financial resources are integrated into the roll-over process.
