According to documents and reporting first detailed by British media, high-ranking FIFA officials filed formal complaints regarding Infantino’s administrative conduct months after his election in February 2016. Among the claims examined were allegations that Infantino bypassed standard organizational travel protocols by flying on Russian government aircraft. Investigators also reviewed a FIFA-funded itinerary that combined an official meeting with the pope with a personal visit to Infantino’s mother, alongside high-salaried staff appointments. Although sanctions were considered, Infantino was ultimately cleared.

Ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final in New York, Infantino addressed member association representatives at an official breakfast meeting, highlighting projected financial milestones for the 2023–2026 cycle. FIFA anticipates revenues exceeding USD 15 billion, driven by the commercial expansion of the 48-team tournament hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Infantino confirmed that more than 200 member associations have already pledged their support for his upcoming re-election campaign.
Scaling Up FIFA Forward Development Funds
Financial distributions under the FIFA Forward initiative are scheduled to scale up significantly. Projections indicate development funding will reach a record USD 2.7 billion for the upcoming 2027–2030 cycle, representing an eight-fold increase since the program’s inception a decade ago.
Infantino emphasized that these revenues remain essential for funding football development in regions where private and domestic investment is limited, pointing toward upcoming competitions such as the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 in Brazil and newly structured youth tournaments.
