Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has joined an investment consortium that has agreed to acquire a minority stake in Premier League club Liverpool, according to reports from multiple outlets including BBC Sport. Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the American sports holding company that owns the Anfield club, confirmed that the partnership aims to support the club’s long-term growth objectives across global markets while retaining its own majority ownership and operational control.
FSG Retains Control as New Investors Join Anfield
Fenway Sports Group purchased Liverpool in 2010 for £300m and previously sold a minority stake to the global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity. Under the newly agreed arrangement, the consortium featuring Bezos will work alongside FSG and club leadership to evaluate opportunities that enhance objectives both on and off the pitch, according to statements released by the club.
FSG president Mike Gordon highlighted the club’s long-term approach when discussing the new investment agreement. “Liverpool has always been built by thinking beyond one season and making decisions with the club’s long-term interests in mind,” Gordon said, as reported by BBC Sport. “That approach continues to attract interest from respected investors and business leaders around the world.”
Gordon added that leadership was particularly drawn to the consortium’s extensive reach across global business, technology, and investment, including strong networks in India and across Asia. While FSG was not seeking outside investment out of financial necessity, the strategic alignment proved persuasive for the club’s board.
Consortium Perspective and Global Reach
Amit Bhatia, speaking on behalf of the incoming investment group, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with the Merseyside giants. “We have the utmost respect and admiration for FSG as owners and for everything they have achieved at Anfield,” Bhatia said. “To be welcomed as a partner in a club of this stature is a huge privilege. We are making this investment because we believe deeply in Liverpool and its leadership, and we look forward to supporting the club’s continued success for years to come.”
Financial Strength at Anfield
The investment arrives during a period of robust financial health for the club. In January, financial firm Deloitte released analysis showing that Liverpool had become the top-earning Premier League club for the first time. The following month, the club announced record revenues of £703m for the 2024–25 financial year.
