Jannik Sinner will miss the hard-court tune-up event in Cincinnati, Ohio, after tournament officials confirmed his withdrawal on Sunday. According to statements released by event organizers, the 24-year-old Italian decided to pull out of the Masters 1000 event to prioritize his recovery ahead of the upcoming US Open in New York.
Reporting from sports outlets in Europe highlights that Sinner has been managing physical setbacks in his right leg. “Mein rechtes Knie hat mir Probleme bereitet. Und obwohl ich mit meinem medizinischen Team hart gearbeitet habe, muss ich akzeptieren, dass ich noch nicht bereit bin, wieder ein Turnier zu bestreiten,” Sinner explained in remarks reported by sport.ORF.at.
Road to the US Open Without Match Practice
The withdrawal means Sinner will travel to New York for the US Open lacking recent match competition on the ATP Tour. His last official appearance came in mid-July, when he secured the Wimbledon singles title by defeating Alexander Zverev in the final. With the Cincinnati tournament running from August 13 through August 23, Sinner opted to bypass the main draw to safeguard his physical readiness for the major championship starting on August 30.
