Le Paris Basketball has firmly established its identity as a brand-first club in French sports, blending urban culture, high-intensity entertainment, and modern basketball operations to drive commercial growth and court new audiences in the Grand Paris region. According to club marketing director Julien Jalouzet, speaking at a Think Sport conference, the organization’s appeal transcends traditional sporting metrics: “Nine out of ten people who walk out of an adidas arena match don’t know the exact score of the game! And one person out of two doesn’t know if we won! You come to the adidas arena to live a true experience.”
The Brand-First Strategy and Entertainment Model
Founded by American investors David Kahn and Eric Schwartz, the club was designed from inception to occupy a broader cultural territory than a standard professional basketball team. Lionel Maltese, an associate professor at Kedge Business School, noted that the organization successfully avoids targeting a single, static demographic. In France, relying exclusively on dedicated basketball enthusiasts presents significant economic growth challenges, making a broader entertainment and lifestyle positioning essential for commercial viability.
This strategy relies heavily on content marketing and cultural partnerships. Beyond regular home fixtures, the club collaborates with prominent Parisian music artists such as Gazo and Jok’Air. These operations allow the organization to embed itself into conversations outside the reach of traditional sports franchises, expanding its reach across diverse urban audiences.
On-Court Success and Roster Development
While lifestyle branding forms a core pillar of the project, athletic performance has accelerated interest and credibility on the floor. Following promotion to the top-tier Betclic Elite in 2021, the club captured the EuroCup in 2024, advanced to its first EuroLeague campaign, and secured the French league championship in 2025. Standout players like Nadir Hifi have provided a recognizable face and narrative arc for the team’s fast-paced, high-intensity playing style.
This competitive ascent culminated in a strong attendance record during the Betclic Elite season, where the club averaged nearly 6,300 spectators per game and recorded five sell-out fixtures, leading the domestic elite in attendance figures.
Infrastructure and High-Profile Investment
The club’s move into the adidas arena in 2024 provided a venue tailored to its entertainment-first philosophy, serving as a pioneer for phygital fan experiences in French sports, according to analysis from Kedge Business School. Further cementing its cultural footprint, actor and producer Omar Sy acquired a stake in the club in June 2025, taking on the role of co-owner and cultural advisor to bolster marketing initiatives, international visibility, and entertainment offerings across the region.

As the club navigates an evolving sports ecosystem, its unique positioning at the crossroads of sport, music, and urban lifestyle continues to define its trajectory in French professional athletics.
