The newly constructed Ciudad Deportiva de Alto Rendimiento in Hidalgo will officially debut as the host of the third edition of the Gimnasiada Nacional 2026, welcoming more than 5,000 athletes from all 32 Mexican states between September 10 and September 20, 2026, according to state government announcements.
Infrastructure and Official Venue Logistics for Hidalgo 2026
State authorities announced the selection of the multi-sport complex during a press conference detailing preparations for the upcoming national games. Oscar Pérez Rojas, director general of the Instituto Hidalguense del Deporte (Inhide), stated that awarding the event to the state reflects the quality of the new facilities built under the administration of Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar. According to Pérez Rojas, having top-tier infrastructure supports local athletic talent, helps develop new champions, and advances sports as a tool for social transformation.
Competition logistics will distribute events across the primary new state complex and specialized auxiliary venues throughout the metropolitan area. The Pachuca sports complex serves as the core hub for the games, supported by the Polideportivo de la UAEH, the Rancho Beisbolero, and the Universidad del Fútbol. The official athletic program features nine distinct disciplines: taekwondo, karate, chess, judo, fencing, swimming, athletics, football, and baseball.
Public Access and Community Sports Programming
Beyond hosting elite national competition, the newly opened facility operates on an extended daily schedule from 06:00 to 22:00 local time, incorporating dedicated community programming. State sports officials noted that the facility reserves the 16:00 to 20:00 window exclusively for the free training of high-performance athletes. In addition, grassroots initiation schools currently serve more than 500 enrolled students, while the venue’s semi-olympic swimming pool is scheduled to open to the general public shortly.
To maintain regional sports momentum ahead of the September competition, Inhide scheduled a statewide boxing exhibition class titled “Puños de Transformación” for August 16 at 08:00 local time. The event takes place simultaneously at the Ciudad Deportiva and in public plazas across Ajacuba, Tula, Tizayuca, El Arenal, and San Agustín Metzquititlán.
Future Bids and National Competition Aspirations
Following the securing of the Gimnasiada Nacional 2026, sports officials confirmed that Hidalgo is actively maintaining administrative discussions with the Comisión Nacional de Cultura Física y Deporte (Conade) to position the state as a candidate to host the broader Olimpiada Nacional in future cycles.
