Guadalajara is opening the historic Alamín and Álvar Fáñez towers to the public under the immersive cultural program «Bajo la Sombra del Torreón», offering guided tours, medieval archer demonstrations, and musical performances from September 4 to September 6, according to official municipal announcements.
Stepping Back Into Medieval Guadalajara
The city council has organized a special open-doors initiative to showcase the recent musealization of two of its most distinctive medieval landmarks. According to municipal statements, the Alamín and Álvar Fáñez towers will transition from simple stone structures into active, living historical exhibits designed to engage visitors of all ages.
Tourism Councillor Víctor Morejón noted that the opening represents a decisive step in elevating the profile of the city’s heritage. Municipal records indicate that the program aims to blend local history with interactive family experiences throughout the three-day festival window.

Visitors can tour both towers during morning and afternoon shifts from 10:30 to 14:00 hours and from 17:00 to 19:00 hours local venue time across Friday and Saturday, while Sunday hours are restricted to the morning shift. Sessions run on Friday at 18:00 hours, Saturday at 12:00 and 18:00 hours, and Sunday at 12:00 hours.
Concurrently, the Torreón de Álvar Fáñez hosts medieval archery demonstrations and practice sessions led by specialists, welcoming participants of all ages during the same hourly slots. Event registration for these onsite activities is free and handled directly on the day of the event.
Musical Finale on Sunday
The cultural weekend concludes on Sunday, September 6, at 13:15 hours local venue time. The Torreón de Álvar Fáñez will host a medieval and Celtic-inspired concert performed by the Orquesta y Coro de la Ciudad de Guadalajara. Admission to the musical finale is free, operating on a first-come, first-served basis until reaching full venue capacity.
