Egypt’s men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams have officially missed out on direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games following their exits from the African Beach Volleyball Championship in Alexandria, according to regional sports reporting.
Alexandria Tournament Closes Door on Los Angeles 2028 Qualification
The continental championship, hosted in Alexandria from August 18 to August 22, offered the ultimate prize of a direct quota spot at the 2028 Summer Games for the tournament winners. Neither Egyptian squad managed to secure the title needed to punch their ticket to California, halting their campaigns in the latter stages of the bracket.
According to coverage from regional sports outlets, the tournament featured a broad field with 24 men’s teams and 22 women’s teams representing nations across the continent, including Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Mozambique, and South Africa.
Men’s Quarterfinal Exit Against Angola
The Egyptian men’s team saw its tournament run end in the quarterfinal round. Reports show that the squad fell to Angola by a 2-1 scoreline in a closely contested match that ultimately kept them out of the medal rounds and the final.

Historical records note that the Egyptian men’s program has never qualified for the Olympic beach volleyball tournament.
Women’s Semifinal Defeat to Morocco
On the women’s side, the Egyptian team advanced further into the bracket before stumbling in the semifinals. According to match reports, the team lost to Morocco 2-1, missing a spot in the championship match that carried the direct Olympic berth.
The defeat also cost the team a podium finish. Coverage indicated that the Egyptian women subsequently lost the third-place playoff, missing out on the bronze medal as well.
Unlike their male counterparts, the Egyptian women’s beach volleyball program holds prior Olympic experience. The team previously qualified for both the Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, finishing in 19th place in both appearances.
