Dakota Ditcheva faces another prolonged period on the sidelines after revealing she suffered fractures to both hands during her unanimous decision victory over Denise Kielholtz at PFL New York. The 28-year-old British fighter, maintaining a 16-0 professional mixed martial arts record, disclosed the injuries through her official YouTube channel on Sunday, explaining that the trauma stems from a recurrence of previous hand damage sustained during a July 2025 bout against Sumiko Inaba.
The Injury Timeline and Fight Night Reality
According to footage published on her YouTube channel, Ditcheva realized the severity of the damage early in her July 31 co-main event matchup on Long Island. “I could feel it from the second I started the second round,” Ditcheva stated in the video. “I didn’t tell my corner. I didn’t tell anybody. I didn’t show it this time, and I didn’t actually tell anybody until I got out of the cage.” Despite the fractures, she fought through the pain to secure a unanimous decision over Kielholtz, a win widely presumed to position her for a bout against former Bellator champion Liz Carmouche for the Professional Fighters League’s inaugural women’s flyweight title.
Following the bout, medical evaluations placed Ditcheva back into splints while she awaits definitive treatment guidelines from her surgical team. “I am back in splints until my surgeon has decided what the next steps are going forward, which will be in the next few days,” she said.
Avoiding Recommended Surgery Led to Re-Injury
The undefeated standout acknowledged that the fractures are a direct consequence of bypassing a recommended medical procedure following her victory over Sumiko Inaba in July 2025. That previous injury had already sidelined her for a significant stretch before her return at PFL New York.
“I was told that if I didn’t go ahead with the surgery, there was a possibility that it would break again in my fight,” Ditcheva explained. “And unfortunately, I took the risk in not doing the surgery because I was hoping that it would hold strong without intervening with that kind of thing – and it didn’t. So it’s no new injury. It was a choice of mine to have the surgery the first time and I didn’t. So therefore, I’m paying the price for it now and I will be out for a little bit.”

While the exact timeline for her return depends on upcoming surgical consultations, the recovery period effectively concludes her active tenure under the current PFL banner. The promotion officially mergers with Jake Paul’s MVP MMA in 2027, meaning Ditcheva is unlikely to compete under the existing PFL corporate structure again.
Reflecting on the mental toll of consecutive major hand injuries, Ditcheva admitted to difficult moments during the past week but emphasized her long-term commitment to the sport. “I have honestly cried nonstop the last week,” she said. “I will be back.
