In a recent interview with Brazilian journalist Laerte Viana, Oliveira outlined his case for a championship bout, pointing to his history with the division’s titleholders and expressing a desire to settle unfinished business. The push comes as the Ultimate Fighting Championship evaluates the next steps for the 155-pound weight class following recent high-profile matchups across the division.

Oliveira has made it clear that he wants a direct path back to the championship belt rather than waiting for other divisional puzzles to resolve. The Brazilian fighter emphasized that a rematch with Gaethje represents the logical next step for the division.

Ahead of that event, Oliveira missed weight on the scales, resulting in him being stripped of the lightweight title before stepping into the Octagon. Despite the pre-fight controversy, Oliveira secured a victory in the bout, submitting Gaethje via rear-naked choke 3 minutes and 22 seconds into the opening round.
“The world knows what happened in our first fight when there was the ‘scale robbery case,'” Oliveira said. “I got the submission win but got my title stripped. Gaethje also said he suffered an accident before the fight, so let’s make that rematch. That’s the fight the world wants to see.”
