Medallists from the Santo Domingo 2026 Games returned to the competition line at the Centro Nacional de Desarrollo de Talentos Deportivos y Alto Rendimiento, known as CNAR, for the start of the 2026 National Archery Championship in Mexico City. Running from August 19 to 23, the tournament brings together athletes across Sub-18, Sub-21, and senior divisions in recurve, compound, and barebow disciplines.
Returning to Form at CNAR
Competition at the national showcase officially opened with official practice sessions and the men’s qualification rounds. For top Mexican archers returning from international duty, the event serves as an essential benchmark. According to participating athletes, the tournament provides a vital platform to recover competitive rhythm, evaluate current scores, and establish baseline parameters ahead of upcoming international cycles.
Coahuila archer Tadeo Rodríguez noted that he entered the national event following an active recovery period. Speaking about his goals for the week, Rodríguez explained that his focus centers on staying near the top of the standings and preserving his point averages. The coahuilense captured gold in the men’s team recurve event during the Santo Domingo Games, alongside a gold in the mixed team category and an individual bronze medal in what marked his first appearance at the regional games.
Perspectives from the Line
Reflecting on his recent international debut, Rodríguez pointed out that coping with high temperatures in Santo Domingo presented a demanding test of adaptability. Now competing at CNAR, he emphasized that the national championship offers a clear window into the broader health and standing of Mexican archery.
Francisco Padilla, an athlete from Baja California who also earned a gold medal as part of the men’s recurve team in Santo Domingo, highlighted the technical value of the tournament. Padilla noted that beyond pursuing personal best scores and refining technique, established competitors carry a responsibility to act as mentors and visible examples for younger generations entering high-performance divisions.
That sentiment was echoed by Juan Pablo Téllez of Coahuila. Téllez observed that the national championship supports the comprehensive athletic development of competitors at every stage, offering both developing newcomers and elite veterans an opportunity to test their abilities under competitive pressure.
Schedule and Upcoming Rounds
The 2026 National Archery Championship continues with a busy slate of events. Thursday’s schedule features the women’s qualification rounds, the men’s individual elimination matches, and the finals for the mixed team competition, further shaping the leaderboards across all divisions at the Mexico City high-performance complex.
