Central Indiana high school football kicked off its 2026 season on Friday, August 21, highlighted by top-ranked Brownsburg erasing a halftime deficit to defeat No. 4 Lawrence North 48-25, while Warren Central edged Center Grove 20-14 in a Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference showdown.
Brownsburg Powers Past Lawrence North in Second Half
Class 6A No. 1 Brownsburg faced No. 4 Lawrence North in a high-profile opening night clash on Friday, August 21, 2026, turning a 19-14 halftime deficit into a dominant 48-25 victory. The game featured several standout individual performances and a pivotal sequence early in the third quarter that shifted the momentum.
Lawrence North held a narrow advantage when Brownsburg took the field for its first drive of the second half. Facing a third-and-13 around midfield, Bulldogs quarterback Oscar Frye launched a pass over his receiver’s head, which appeared to bring up a punting situation. Instead, a pass interference penalty against Lawrence North extended the drive. Parker Condon capitalized with an 8-yard touchdown run, putting Brownsburg ahead 21-19 and sparking a run of 28 consecutive third-quarter points.
Brady Lewis anchored the Brownsburg ground attack by carrying the ball 35 times for 225 yards behind a physical offensive line. Through the air, Frye connected with Branden Sharpe on a 48-yard touchdown pass over the top midway through the third quarter. Sharpe finished with four receptions for 88 yards and a score. Lawrence North kept pace early behind Izayveon Moore, who returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown and added 67 rushing yards, while quarterback Darian Prather rushed 13 times for 107 yards.
Warren Central Halts Center Grove Streak in MIC Opener
In Greenwood, the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference celebrated its 30th anniversary with a physical rematch between traditional rivals. Before kickoff, superintendents from both schools walked out together to demonstrate conference unity before fifth-ranked Warren Central locked horns with No. 6 Center Grove.
Until defeating Center Grove in last November’s regional round, Warren Central had dropped nine consecutive games in the series dating back to 2019. The Warriors proved that victory was no fluke, grinding out a 20-14 come-from-behind victory to secure their second straight win against the Trojans.
Senior running back Keyon Thomas paced Warren Central with 129 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, including a 38-yard burst in the first quarter and a 1-yard plunge in the third. With the score tied 14-14 late in the fourth quarter, quarterback Anthony Dennison found Zechariah Wallace for a 9-yard game-winning touchdown pass. The Warriors’ defense then sealed the outcome by stopping Center Grove deep in the red zone with just 1:11 remaining.
