Fatal Collision Occurs Near the Peloton in Northern Portugal

According to reports from public broadcaster RTP, Finlay Tarling was riding slightly behind the main peloton when the incident took place. The 19-year-old rider, competing for the NSN Development Team, was struck by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. Emergency medical responders rushed to the scene to provide immediate care, but the young Briton ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Race organizers released a formal statement on the social media platform X confirming the tragedy. “The organizers of the 87th Tour of Portugal deeply regret to announce the death of British rider Finlay Tarling, of the NSN Development Team, following a serious accident during the 8th stage of the race,” the statement read.
