Baja California has officially opened its new Archery Center of Excellence at the Tijuana High-Performance Center (CAR). The facility establishes a dedicated training ground designed to develop elite talent ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
A 20 Million Peso Investment in Tijuana
State officials confirm the launch represents a 20 million peso collaborative investment. The project pools resources from the state government, the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE), World Archery México, and World Archery Americas.
Modern Infrastructure for Elite Competitors
The newly inaugurated venue leaves little to chance.
It is equipped with a specialized archery field featuring rehabilitated synthetic turf and modern lighting. Alongside the range sits an armory, a strength conditioning gym, an athlete clinic, and administrative offices.
State coverage reports these additions aim to provide comprehensive technical, medical, and methodological support. Youth and elite competitors alike will use the space to prepare for international events.
Strategic Proximity to California
During the inauguration ceremony, Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda emphasized the strategic advantages of the venue’s location. Tijuana’s proximity to California positions the city as a natural preparation hub for athletes targeting the 2028 Summer Games, according to the governor.
“Here, the athletes who will carry Mexico’s colors to the greatest sports event on the planet will train, refine their skills, and grow stronger,” Avila Olmeda stated, according to official reports. “From Baja California, we will drive the Olympic dream of a generation of archers pointing straight to the podium.”
Fulfilling Commitments to Regional Sports
CONADE General Director Rommel Pacheco Marrufo attended the opening. He noted that the project fulfills prior commitments made to support regional sports development.
Pacheco Marrufo highlighted that the complex creates an elite training hub supported by international coaches. A unified methodological system is designed to elevate local talent and stimulate the regional economy.
Consolidating Institutional Agreements
Roberto Beltrán Ramonetti, Director of High-Level Competition for the INDEBC, added context to the timeline. He stated that the facility consolidates institutional agreements established in May 2025 among the three levels of government, as well as international sporting organizations. He also acknowledged the foundational role that athlete families play in supporting young competitors.
The opening event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a formal tour of the new spaces, and an on-site exhibition conducted by state archery representatives. The venue is intended to host training camps, international competitions, and domestic selection events in the lead-up to the 2028 Olympic cycle.
