The Baja California government, in coordination with federal sports authorities and international organizations, officially inaugurated the new Archery Center of Excellence at the Tijuana High-Performance Center (CAR), establishing a specialized training hub designed to develop elite talent ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
A Strategic Investment for Olympic Preparation
The state-of-the-art facility was completed through a joint investment of 20 million pesos, funded collaboratively by the Government of Baja California, the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE), World Archery Mexico, and World Archery Americas, according to regional reporting. The complex provides local and national athletes with comprehensive technical, medical, and methodological support tailored to high-performance competition.
Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda emphasized that Tijuana’s geographical proximity to California makes the border city an ideal base for athletes preparing for the 2028 Summer Games. “Here they will train, refine, and strengthen themselves,” the governor stated, noting that the venue aims to propel a new generation of Mexican archers directly toward international podiums.
Infrastructure and Training Capabilities
Located within the existing infrastructure of CAR Tijuana, the newly opened center features a specialized archery field equipped with upgraded synthetic turf and modern lighting. Additional amenities include a dedicated armory, a strength conditioning gym, an athlete clinic, and administrative offices designed to host domestic training camps, international delegations, and official qualifying tournaments.
CONADE Director General Rommel Pacheco Marrufo noted that the project fulfills prior commitments to regional sports development by establishing a unified methodological system staffed by international coaches. Meanwhile, Roberto Beltrán Ramonetti, Director of High-Level Competition for the INDEBC, pointed out that the facility consolidates multi-level institutional agreements initiated in May 2025.
Next Steps for National Selectees
Following the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, state-selected athletes demonstrated the facility’s capabilities with an exhibition shoot for attending officials, coaches, and families. The venue will immediately transition into a full-time training base for national team members as they prepare for upcoming international competitions within the Olympic cycle.
