Agriculture Department Leaves 140 Rural Path Aid Requests Unfunded Due to Budget Shortfalls, Says La Unió

The Conselleria d’Agricultura of the Valencian Community has left a total of 140 municipal subsidy applications for rural path conditioning completely unfunded for 2026, according to official data published in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) on July 16. Out of all the towns that applied for financial support to improve their agricultural infrastructure, only 50 local municipalities secured funding, sparking sharp criticism from the agricultural organization LA UNIÓ.

The agricultural group points out that the total amount requested by town councils significantly exceeds the fixed budget allocation of 4 million euros established for the call. Consequently, the Evaluation Committee applied objective criteria outlined in the regulatory bases to distribute the limited funds, setting a strict cutoff line at 4 points alongside a rurality coefficient of 0.6242.

In response to the widespread exclusion of rural towns, LA UNIÓ has formally requested that the regional government expand the existing 4 million euro budget credit. The organization argues that additional funds are vital so that no town wishing to repair and upgrade its vital rural pathways is turned away due to budgetary constraints.

Provincial Breakdown of Approved and Denied Rural Path Subsidies

The official resolution details a heavy disparity between approved applications and denied requests across all three provinces within the Valencian Community. Records show that administrative filters, including budget caps, inadmissibility decisions, and withdrawn files, narrowed down the final recipient list drastically.

In the province of Alicante, records show that 7 municipalities secured funding while 32 requests were denied despite meeting basic requirements. The successful localities comprise Benimarfull, Gaianes, Hondón de las Nieves, Pedreguer, Sagra, Sella, and Tàrbena.

In the province of Castellón, 23 entities successfully obtained grants, while 31 applications were turned down.

In the province of Valencia, 20 municipalities gained approval, while 77 applications faced rejection.

Administrative Inadmissions and Withdrawn Files

Beyond the strict budgetary rejections, official documentation from the General Directorate reveals that 16 additional applications were declared inadmissible due to various technical factors. These infractions included municipalities having received grants during the previous funding call, submitting non-subsidizable actions, filing duplicate applications, or proposing investments outside established geographic and financial boundaries.

Furthermore, records indicate that 32 separate files were designated as withdrawn. In the vast majority of these instances, municipalities failed to answer mandatory administrative requirements for amending their initial documentation within the designated timeframe.

Agricultural representatives continue to monitor the distribution of rural development funds across the region, pressing regional authorities to address infrastructure deficits on rural routes essential for daily farming operations and local transit.
