The event is held in memory of Gian Matteo Sidoli, who passed away a year ago at age 90, serving as a spiritual successor to the historic Premio Reverberi while sharpening its focus squarely on live play and youth development.

Opening Weekend Tips Off in Roncolo and Puianello

Action tipped off on Sept. 19 in Roncolo with the semifinals of the 4QC Blue Cup, an Under-19 men’s tournament organized in partnership with Go Basket. Simultaneously in Puianello, the Reggio Emilia Baskings—coming off a successful season—received the Premio Piccinini to honor their accomplishments in baskin. The opening day schedule also featured the Canepari All Stars, pitting local basketball veterans against one another on the hardwood.

Honoring ‘Il Santone’ at the Memorial Sidoli

Sept. 20 pivoted toward youth development with the “Play Together” minibasket festival. Following the conclusion of the Blue Cup finals in Roncolo, attention shifted to Montecavolo for a tribute gathering dedicated to Sidoli. Friends, former referees, and players assembled to share anecdotes about the late figure affectionately known as “Il Santone.” Puianello then hosted the inaugural Memorial Sidoli later that evening, featuring a women’s Serie B preseason friendly between the Puianello Basket Team and Basket Cavezzo.

Coppa Matildica and Red Cup Play

The festival schedule pauses during the week before returning for a second weekend of competition. Friday, Sept. 25 marks the opening of the Coppa Matildica in Puianello, a men’s tournament for DR2 and DR3 squads coordinated by Basket Matildico. Saturday features the semifinals of the 4QC Red Cup—an Under-13 girls’ tournament run alongside Basket Lab Re—alongside the second bracket of the Coppa Matildica.
