The incident occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning during an infield single by Julio Rodríguez. As he sprinted toward first base, a throw from Cincinnati shortstop Elly De La Cruz struck the Mariners outfielder in his upper leg, specifically the hamstring or glute area, according to reporting from Seattle Sports.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson explained that the decision to remove Rodríguez before the top of the sixth was made quickly, influenced by the jarring nature of the play and the player’s recent health history. Rodríguez had only recently returned to the lineup following a 15-day stint on the concussion injured list that ended July 18.

Wilson attributed the move to wrist soreness, specifically in the left wrist, which Crawford appeared to favor following a swing during Sunday’s game.
Crawford, who had been transitioning to third base, was slated to start at shortstop on Monday. In his absence, the team inserted Colt Emerson at the position. Crawford had previously missed nine games in June due to a hand contusion after being hit by a pitch, an injury that preceded his position change to third base on June 16.
