Mexico’s Standout Performance at Pan American Archery Championship Quadratin Querétaro
According to the Pan American Archery Association, Mexico secured a historic performance at the Quadratin Querétaro 2023 Pan American Archery Championship, capturing three gold medals and a silver in a tournament held from August 21 to August 27 in Querétaro, Mexico. The achievements marked the nation’s best showing at the event since 2015, with athletes excelling in both individual and team categories.
The competition, hosted at the Parque de la Luz in Querétaro, drew 450 archers from 22 nations, featuring events in recurve and compound disciplines. Mexico’s success came amid strong performances from traditional powerhouses like the United States and Canada, with the Mexican team finishing third in the overall medal count behind only the U.S. and Brazil.

Mexico’s medal tally included gold in the women’s team recurve, silver in the men’s team recurve, and a gold in the mixed team recurve. The women’s team, composed of María Fernanda Valdés, Paola Longoria, and Alejandra Valencia, set a new tournament record with a score of 632 out of 660 in the final round. The men’s team, led by Santiago Martínez, Carlos Peña, and José Luis García, claimed silver after a closely contested match against the U.S. squad.
The mixed team gold, featuring Valdés and Martínez, highlighted the depth of Mexico’s archery program. The pair defeated Argentina in the final with a score of 147-145, showcasing precision and composure under pressure. “This victory is a testament to the hard work of our athletes and the support from the Mexican Archery Federation,” said team coach Luis Torres in a statement.
Querétaro’s role as the host city added to the event’s significance. The Parque de la Luz, a 10,000-seat facility, hosted daily competitions under clear skies, with temperatures averaging 28°C. Organizers reported record attendance, with over 15,000 spectators per day, according to a press release from the Querétaro Tourism Board.
