Former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold, a 2024 first-round NFL draft pick, was arrested in June on eight felony charges, including kidnapping and armed robbery, following a chaotic February incident in Largo, Florida. Released on a $1 million bond, Arnold is currently a free agent as he awaits trial.
The February Incident and Stolen Property
The legal proceedings stem from a February weekend at an Airbnb in Largo, Florida, where Terrion Arnold had been staying. Arnold reported a significant theft to local police, detailing the loss of items including an $80,000 diamond chain, four pairs of designer shoes, two Rolex watches, a cellphone, a Bible, and $100,000 in cash.

Police records indicate that Arnold was candid about his intentions for the cash. When officers questioned the presence of $100,000 in a rental unit, Arnold responded:
“Oh my God, you know I was,” Arnold said, based on a recording of the call The Athletic obtained from the Largo Police Department. “It’s the offseason, man. . . . Blackjack and roulette.”
The weekend was marked by heavy activity. A neighbor told police he observed a “constant cloud” of marijuana near the house, while other reports noted a high volume of guests, with one homeowner association president stating that the community was changing its rules as a direct result of the weekend’s events.

Allegations of Kidnapping and Armed Robbery
Following the initial burglary, prosecutors allege that Arnold orchestrated a plot to recover his property. Arnold is accused of instructing his then-18-year-old girlfriend and her roommate to lure three individuals—including his personal driver—to an apartment.
Authorities allege the victims were held at gunpoint and pistol-whipped. The effort to retrieve the stolen goods ultimately failed. While Arnold initially reported the theft of his own property, he later informed police he no longer wished to press charges, expressing a desire to seek civil recourse instead. The charges of kidnapping and armed robbery carry a possible sentence of life in prison.
Current Legal Status and NFL Future
Arnold, who signed a four-year, $14.3 million contract as a rookie, was released by the Lions shortly after his arrest. He turned himself in to authorities on June 24 and was released after posting a $1 million bond. His release conditions prohibit contact with witnesses or co-defendants and require him to remain at home except for work or court-related functions.
This follows our earlier report, Terrion Arnold Contacted by Three NFL Teams After Being Waived by Detroit Lions.
His attorney, Harvey Steinberg, has maintained that the charges are motivated by Arnold’s status as a high-profile athlete, contending that Arnold was the trophy in this case. Despite the severity of the allegations, reports indicate that three NFL teams have expressed interest in the free agent. As a 2024 first-round pick, he was a promising cornerback for the Lions.
However, Arnold’s path to an NFL return remains uncertain. The league maintains the authority to place players on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, which would prevent him from practicing or playing while the legal process continues. A hearing regarding the potential requirement of a GPS ankle monitor is scheduled for this coming Friday.
