A Trailblazing Three-Decade Career at 6abc
She stepped into the newsroom as the station’s first-ever weekend weather anchor and general assignment reporter, eventually succeeding the retiring Dave Roberts to become the station’s first female chief meteorologist in 2009.
Over the course of more than 35 years in total broadcast experience—which included early roles at WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia, and KTNV in Las Vegas—she became one of the most recognizable faces in Philadelphia media. In recent years, she anchored weather segments for the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. Action News broadcasts, alongside a streaming edition at 6:30 p.m., while also serving as a fixture on the station’s Thanksgiving Day parade coverage.

Her broadcasts guided local residents through the Blizzard of 1996, Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Ida, historic floods, tornadoes, and severe heat waves. Beyond daily forecasting, she hosted seasonal specials detailing regional snowfall projections and anchored the Saturday evening public affairs program Primetime Weekend

Her broadcasting reach extended beyond local affiliate television. She made recurring national appearances on ABC News programs including Good Morning America

Family Milestones Prompting the Next Chapter
Explaining her decision to viewers, Tynan noted that the departure has been planned for some time and aligns with significant family milestones. Both children have graduated from high school, and her daughter is heading to college in less than a month to run cross country and track.
“My husband and I, we plan to attend every single one of her meets. So it’s the right time for me. It’s the right time for family, and I’m so very thankful.”

When she steps away from the anchor desk at the end of August, Tynan plans to split her time between traveling and spending winters in Florida water skiing with her husband Greg, two adult children, and three rescue dogs named Nala, Shelby, and Charlie. She also intends to continue her longtime support of animal welfare initiatives, including the station’s Shelter Me
pet adoption segments.
