Colima Secures 30 Medals at Olimpiada Nacional Conade 2026, Highlighting Strength in Judo, Swimming, and Chess
According to preliminary reports, the Mexican state of Colima concluded the Olimpiada Nacional Conade 2026 with a total of 30 medals, marking a significant achievement in the national sports competition. The results, as shared by local sports authorities, highlight standout performances in judo, swimming, and chess, with the latter contributing six medals, including two golds and four bronzes.
The Olimpiada Nacional Conade, organized by the National Council of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade), is a multi-sport event that brings together athletes from across Mexico. While the 2026 edition is yet to be officially confirmed by Conade, the reported success of Colima has already generated buzz among regional sports communities.
“Colima’s performance underscores the state’s commitment to developing talent across a diverse range of disciplines,” said a spokesperson for the Colima Sports Department, who added that the results reflect years of investment in training programs and infrastructure. “Judo and swimming have long been strongholds, but the chess team’s achievement is a new milestone for our athletes.”
Chess Emerges as a Surprising Powerhouse
Chess, often overlooked in traditional medal tallies, accounted for six of Colima’s 30 medals. The state’s chess team secured two golds and four bronzes, according to the reported standings. This success is attributed to the growth of chess academies and youth development initiatives in Colima, which have gained traction in recent years.

“The chess team’s performance is a testament to the strategic mindset our athletes have cultivated,” said Ignacio Vargas, a coach with the Colima Chess Federation. “It’s not just about individual skill but also the support systems in place, from schools to community centers.”
