Archery: Jeune Loire Archers Chase National Final Glory in French Championship
The Jeune Loire Archers are one win away from securing a spot in the French National Archery Championship final, as they prepare for a high-stakes showdown in Lyon on Saturday. The regional team from the Loire Valley has captured the attention of archery fans across France with their precision, resilience and historic ambition.
With the 2023-24 French Archery Federation (FFA) National Championships reaching its climax, the Jeune Loire Archers face the Champagne-Ardenne Lions in a semi-final match that could determine the final two teams competing for the national title. The event, held at the Palais des Sports de Gerland, will be broadcast live on France24 and streamed via the FFA’s official platform.
What’s at Stake?
The winner of Saturday’s semi-final will advance to the national final, where they will face either the Bordeaux Élans or the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur (PACA) Eagles. For the Jeune Loire Archers, What we have is more than a chance to win a trophy—it’s a chance to etch their name into the history books.

“This is the first time in the FFA’s 45-year history that a team from the Loire region has reached the national semi-finals,” said Marie Lefèvre, a spokesperson for the Jeune Loire Archers. “The players have trained relentlessly, and they’re ready to prove that our region can compete at the highest level.”
The FFA’s national championships, held annually since 1979, feature teams from all 13 French regions. The final, traditionally held in Paris at the AccorHotels Arena, will take place on April 28. A victory for the Jeune Loire Archers would mark the first regional title for the Loire Valley since the 1990s.
The Road to the Semi-Finals
The Jeune Loire Archers’ journey to the semi-finals has been nothing short of remarkable. They began the tournament as a seventh seed in the men’s recurve team division, a category that includes 16 teams competing in a single-elimination format.
In the quarter-finals, they defeated the Alsace Dragons 248–239 in a nail-biting encounter. The team’s star archer, Étienne Moreau, set a tournament record with a perfect score of 149 out of 150 in the final end of the match. “Étienne’s performance was extraordinary,” said coach Julien Dufresne. “He’s the heartbeat of this team.”
Their path to the semi-finals was marked by strategic adjustments. Dufresne implemented a new training regimen focused on mental resilience and target visualization, which paid off in the quarter-finals. “We’ve been working with a sports psychologist to help the team stay calm under pressure,” Dufresne added.
Key Players and Tactics
The Jeune Loire Archers’ roster includes a mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars. Moreau, 28, is the team’s top scorer, with a career average of 245 points per match. Joining him are Lucas Dubois, a 22-year-old prodigy from Nantes, and Clémentine Renard, the team’s only female archer and a specialist in long-distance shooting.
Team strategy revolves around consistency and adaptability. In the quarter-finals, the archers adjusted their stance and draw weight to compensate for the indoor conditions at Gerland. “The indoor venue has a different airflow pattern than our training facility in Orléans
