The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is moving to secure the long-term future of its technical leadership, with reports indicating the organization is close to signing
Carlo Ancelotti to a contract extension that would keep the Italian manager at the helm through 2030.
Samir Xaud, the president of the CBF, confirmed that the federation and the coach are aligned on a long-term vision. The extension would notice Ancelotti lead the Seleção not only through the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, but also through the 2030 tournament, which will be hosted across Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
According to Xaud, the primary goal is to have the formal agreement finalized before the final squad announcement for the upcoming World Cup. While the intent is clear, the president noted that a few basic legal and bureaucratic adjustments still need to be resolved before the ink is dry.
“The idea is that by the last call-up he already has the contract signed. Some basic legal aspects remain to be resolved. Both he and the CBF wish to renew, we trust in his work. We have a lot of confidence in him, not in vain we are close to signing him until 2030. We are well represented and well attended in terms of the coach.” Samir Xaud, President of the CBF
Financial Terms and World Cup Incentives
While official contract documents have not been released to the public, reporting indicates that Ancelotti’s base salary will remain stable at approximately 10 million euros. However, the deal includes significant performance-based bonuses tied to silverware.
The most lucrative of these incentives is tied to the 2026 World Cup; should Ancelotti lead Brazil to a world title, he is expected to receive a bonus of 5 million euros.
Ancelotti has previously signaled his enthusiasm for the project, suggesting a desire to commit to a four-year extension. In a lighthearted moment regarding the timing of the negotiations, the manager joked that signing before the World Cup might be cheaper
, whereas signing after a successful tournament could make the contract more expensive

A Historic Tenure for the Seleção
Ancelotti’s appointment as Brazil’s head coach marked a historic shift for the Canarinha, as he became the first full-time foreign coach in the national team’s history. After a storied career in club football—most recently leading Real Madrid to continued dominance in Europe—Ancelotti transitioned to the international stage in May 2025.
The decision to extend his stay until 2030 reflects the CBF’s desire for stability and a cohesive tactical identity. For a nation that has faced a period of transition and high pressure, the continuity provided by a manager of Ancelotti’s pedigree is seen as vital for reclaiming global dominance.
The CBF aims to make the extension official before May 18, the date Ancelotti is scheduled to announce the final roster for the 2026 World Cup.
Next Checkpoint: The official announcement of Brazil’s World Cup squad is expected on May 18, with the CBF hoping to confirm the contract extension simultaneously.
