Victor Wembanyama Injured in Spurs’ Loss to Celtics: Rookie Star Falls Amid Boston’s Dominant Win

Victor Wembanyama Injury Concern After Spurs’ Loss to Celtics

Victor Wembanyama exited the game against the Boston Celtics with a facial injury after being struck by Sam Hauser’s forearm, raising concerns for the San Antonio Spurs’ rookie star.

The incident occurred during the first half when Wembanyama’s nose was hit by Hauser’s palm and then he was struck in the eye and forehead by the back of Hauser’s forearm. He remained on the court for about a minute holding his face in pain before going to the locker room.

Wembanyama did not return to the Spurs bench until the close of the first quarter to prepare for the start of the second quarter.

Despite the injury concern, Wembanyama delivered a standout performance, scoring 39 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, including eight three-pointers that matched his career high.

De’Aaron Fox contributed 25 points and Stephon Castle added 18 points as the Spurs secured their fifth straight victory, sweeping the season series against the Celtics with a 125-116 win.

For the Celtics, Derrick White led the scoring with 34 points, while Jayson Tatum added 24 points in his third game back from a ruptured right Achilles tendon suffered on May 12, 2025.

The game was marked by physical play, including the ejection of Boston All-Star Jaylen Brown after he became incensed over a non-call when he lost the ball out of bounds with 3:42 remaining in the first half.

Brown received a technical foul from official Tyler Ford, followed by a second technical from official Suyash Mehta seconds later, resulting in an automatic ejection. He had to be restrained by teammates.

The Spurs improved to 48-17 on the season and 25-6 at home, while the Celtics fell to 43-22 overall and 22-12 on the road.

Boston was 19 for 51 on three-point attempts after starting 9 for 17, while San Antonio made 12 of 28 three-pointers.

The Spurs next host the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night, while the Celtics travel to face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night.

Victor Wembanyama remains one of three contenders for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic.

As the Spurs continue their push for playoff positioning, the health of their franchise cornerstone will be monitored closely in the coming days.
