Galatasaray’s star striker Victor Osimhen has returned to team training after recovering from injury, manager Okan Buruk confirmed ahead of the club’s crucial Super League match against Gençlerbirliği.
The Nigerian forward participated in a full training session with the squad on Wednesday, April 16, 2026, marking his first full involvement with the team since being sidelined.
“Osimhen completed a long training session with the team yesterday,” Buruk stated during a press briefing before Thursday’s training session at the Kemerburgaz Metin Oktay Facilities. “His presence has a very positive impact on the group. He trained very well, and his return has clearly boosted the team’s energy.”
Buruk emphasized that the final decision on Osimhen’s availability for the Gençlerbirliği match would be made after further evaluation of the player’s condition. “We will evaluate his condition further before deciding whether to include him in the squad for the upcoming trip to Ankara to face Gençlerbirliği.”
The Galatasaray manager also addressed the team’s position in the Turkish Super League, confirming they remain at the top of the table with a two-point lead over rivals Fenerbahçe. “We are currently the league leaders, two points ahead of our nearest rival [Fenerbahçe], and we will face them at our home stadium. The strings are in our hands.”
Despite a demanding schedule that has seen the club compete in nearly 50 matches across multiple competitions this season, Buruk took responsibility for any shortcomings even as expressing confidence in his squad. “If there are errors, mistakes, or points lost, the responsibility lies with me. I am responsible for everything,” he stated. “But I have total confidence in my players.”
The return of Osimhen comes as Galatasaray aims to secure a historic fourth consecutive league title, with the manager reiterating his domestic focus following their Champions League exit earlier in the season.
Galatasaray will face Gençlerbirliği in their upcoming Super League fixture, with the match serving as a critical step in their title charge before the highly anticipated derby against Fenerbahçe.
