13th OPEN Eugène Prost: Mâcon Judo Hosts National Competition with 220 Athletes
On April 22, 2026, the city of Mâcon in eastern France hosted the 13th edition of the OPEN Eugène Prost, a national judo competition organized by Mâcon Judo at the Saugeraies complex. The event brought together approximately 220 judokas competing in the benjamin (ages 11-12) and minime (ages 13-14) categories, as confirmed by event organizers.
The competition, held in memory of local judoka Eugène Prost who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic, featured departmentally certified referees and sports commissioners overseeing the proceedings. Laurence Trichard, member of Mâcon Judo’s Board of Directors and communications officer, provided details about the event’s structure and significance to local media.
Participants included 19 athletes from CO Sartrouville Judo in the Yvelines region of Île-de-France, representing the club traveling the greatest distance to attend. The competition also featured athletes from Judo Club Drancyen in Seine-Saint-Denis, highlighting regional participation from across France.
In the benjamin girls’ -32kg category, Layane Matoug of Avenir Club Judo des Minguettes (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) secured first place, followed by Ysee Piganiol of Judo Club du Val de Mieges (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) in second and Mélusine Legros of Judo Club (unspecified) in third.
Beyond the competition, organizers incorporated community initiatives including a road safety awareness program conducted by Macif, which engaged 100 participants. Special awards were presented for young referees and sports commissioners in the minime and cadet categories, as noted by Mireille Fouilloux, a volunteer professor and official referee with the French Judo Federation.
The event awarded the Coupe MBA (Mâconnais Beaujolais Agglomération) to the club demonstrating the greatest representation and longest travel distance, recognizing CO Sartrouville Judo for their significant participation despite geographical challenges.
As the judo community continues its seasonal competitions, this event serves as both a tribute to Eugène Prost’s legacy and a platform for developing young talent across French regions. Future events will build upon this foundation of competitive excellence and community engagement.
