The women’s judo team from Club de Judo Sant Jordi made history this weekend with their debut in Spain’s Segunda División Nacional Femenina, marking a significant milestone for Ibicenco sports.
The team competed in Madrid at the Francisco Valcárcel sports pavilion, home of the Madrid Judo Federation, facing off against some of the nation’s top clubs in the second-highest tier of team judo competition in Spain.
Representing Ibiza, the Sant Jordi squad consisted entirely of athletes developed through the club’s own program: Dina Hamri competing in the -52 kg category, Aisha Ferrer in -57 kg, Aroa García in -63 kg, Adriana Ferrer in -70 kg, and Catiana Cardona in the +70 kg division. They were accompanied by a team coach and the club president for the historic journey to the capital.
The club, which has been nurturing young judoka on the island for nearly 40 years, continues to establish itself as a breeding ground for national-level talent. Recent success at the Spanish Championships held at the Velódromo Islas Baleares highlighted this progression, with María García winning gold, Adriana Ferrer taking silver, and Dina Hamri earning bronze in their respective age categories.

Dina Hamri specifically noted her perseverance through injury to secure her bronze medal, stating she “felt a little nervous because I was coming off an injury, but little by little I started to feel better until I could fight for the bronze and win it.”
