Tarragona Unveils Renovated Municipal Archery Field with Artificial Turf
Tarragona inaugurated its newly renovated municipal archery field this Saturday, coinciding with the second round of the Interclubs League. The facility, located in the Sant Salvador neighborhood, features artificial turf installed across the entire shooting range, marking a significant upgrade from the previous dirt surface.
The inauguration ceremony took place at 7:00 PM local time and included participation from city officials, including Mayor Rubén Viñuales and Sports Councillor Mario Soler. World archery champion Elia Canales also attended the event, alongside representatives from the local TAU Archery Club and community organizations.
According to municipal sources, the renovation project incorporated sustainable practices by reusing artificial turf from recently renovated municipal football fields. Beyond the playing surface, improvements included concrete paving of the main entrance to enhance accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility, installation of electrical supply and lighting to extend operating hours, conditioning of the shooting line, expansion of paved areas, and covering of the office space.
Local sports officials emphasized that the upgrades aim to modernize the facility while improving safety and accessibility for archers of all abilities. The project reflects the city’s ongoing investment in sports infrastructure to support both recreational and competitive archery activities in the region.
The renovated field will now serve as the regular venue for the Interclubs League competitions and is expected to host additional regional and national archery events throughout the year. City officials noted that the improved lighting and accessibility features will allow for broader community use beyond competitive schedules.
As Tarragona continues to develop its sports facilities, the municipal archery field represents one of several recent upgrades aimed at enhancing athletic infrastructure across the city. The facility’s reopening coincides with growing interest in traditional and competitive archery disciplines throughout Catalonia.
